SEO, AEO and GEO for a business website: what to fix first

Start with accessible pages and reliable business facts. Search engines and AI answer systems need useful content they can find, understand and attribute; creating more domains or adding a special AI file does not replace those foundations.

Separate discovery from persuasion

Check that important pages return their own content, have a useful title, a correct canonical URL and normal internal links. Verify robots and noindex rules. Then check whether the page explains the service clearly enough for a buyer to decide what to do next. A technically accessible but vague page solves only half the problem.

Build a clear service page

State what the service does, who it suits, the required inputs, the delivery stages and what remains the customer’s responsibility. Explain exceptions and limits. Use examples labelled as examples; do not turn an illustrative workflow into a client case study or claim a measured return without evidence.

Write an answer before an article

Choose a question a prospect actually asks and answer it directly near the top. Add the explanation, steps, a comparison where useful and sources for changeable facts. Link the guide to the relevant service and a contact path. Several complete answers are more useful than many near-identical keyword pages.

Keep identity and attribution consistent

Use the correct business name, operating entities, locations and contact details across the website and business listings. Structured data should represent what visitors can see. Do not mark up an integration as a certification, a partner-directory link as an endorsement, or an invented review as a rating.

Measure progress without promising a rank

Use Search Console to track indexing, queries and search visits, and consent-controlled analytics to understand the journey to an enquiry. Record AI mentions as observations and check that the description is accurate. Google’s current guidance retains search fundamentals and describes Search Console controls for inclusion in generative AI features. Check the setting for your verified property as well as the page itself.

Give the work a maintainable home

Keep product guides on the product site and consulting guides on the services site. If retiring an older domain, map useful pages to their replacements and use permanent redirects. Keep one source of truth rather than publishing the same article across several domains.
