Before you start an AI project
Five decisions that make a first project easier to evaluate.
Choose one task
Name the user, the question or action, and what a useful result looks like. “Add AI” is not an acceptance criterion.
Name the source of truth
List the documents and systems the answer should come from. Identify who can approve and update that information.
Define the limits
Set out what the system can draft, what it can execute and when a person must take over.
Prepare a small evaluation set
Include normal cases, incomplete requests and cases where the correct response is to ask for help.
Agree the operating plan
Decide ownership, cost limits, maintenance, feedback and a way to pause the workflow.
